Someone posted this link and I've spent the morning reading these stories. Although it is an American site, they are still relevant stories. Some of the abusers got long sentences, others have been let off with a slap. Please see it if you get a chance.

Amanda, thanks for this link. The Sunday Sun just published the first of a three part exposé on CAS - with a focus on Toronto CCAS - it was two or three full pages and very critical in tone.

The second and third installments are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

The Sun article was very good, although the reporter made a few statements regarding an individual case that might mislead readers about fetal alcohol syndrome and drug addicted parents. To the best of my knowledge, women can acquire fetal alcohol syndrome before even knowing they're pregnant. This could involve consuming several drinks at a party. It does not mean they are unfit parents.

The second thing to be aware of is that very few parents are hopeless drug addicts. Perceptions of this type serve CAS hysteria requirements, but the statistics and conditions surrounding such situations create a much different picture.

Still, I'll take the article and hope the next ones are as good. The statistics regarding abuse in CAS care will shock anyone who believes they protect society's most vulnerable.

Also, the timing of the Toronto Sun series would seem to support the rally idea that someone previously mentioned on this site.

The Sun article also suggested that problems with CAS are restricted to families on welfare whereas CAS is increasingly threatening the middle class and professionals.

The Sun article is very good it is time to challenge the system. A system that has used foster care and adoption as a cure has fast become a recipe for the very abuse that they allege to prevent.

Many people who were abused watch this site. One of them is Kim Campbell who was adopted and tortured by Canada's former oldest female inmate. A suggestion from her is this - the fact that Jeffrey Baldwin does not even have a proper grave is a total shame. Nick Pron described this in one of his articles. The suggestion is this - the government and particularily the CCAS of Toronto should pay for his burial. I think it is quite brilliant considering the outcome for this little fellow after they allowed him to be in the hands of the people who killed him.

Edith Sanders was the most hateful child abusing monster on this earth she adopted and fostered children and tortured them for years. Kim Campbell was adopted by her. Her suggestion of the CCAS paying to have Jeffrey properly buried is a good one. It is the least that they can do.

In the good old days of adoption and foster care many were abused - now children are being MURDERED -what is wrong with this whole thing?

The website link is very important considering that Minister Chambers is working with a private broker that arranges adoptions for the wealthy and infertile.

Can it be said that foster care and adoption saves children? No, it cannot which is why Bill 210 and promoting it is all the more ridiculous.

CCAS pay to give Jeffrey a proper burial? If the agency had any sincere interest in the well-being of children, it would have come forward long ago. Rather, it did not attend the memorial, lied to conceal its relation with Elva Bottineau and refused to cooperate to protect itself.

The sentiment behind this suggestion is good. However, involving CCAS in would only mitigate its responsibility and disgrace Jeffrey's memory. Let CCAS' indifference after his death stand as its legacy.

I have an adopted child with traits of FAS or FAE, the mother risk clinic states this is true, women trying to conceive should not drink at all according to the research thus far done, and until they ban alcohol how on earth can you state FAC is proof of an unfit parent. Also its hard to diagnose FAC. Low birth weight in on the radar screen as well so will smoking be, in no time at all, because of childhood obesity and the cost to the health care system, Mc Donald's and Pizza Pizza will become mandatory reporters, as well, how often you children eat out at such places will be tracked, I am kidding , but only half way. Dressing your child to well is also a RISK, yes sure, that gets you points on the Child at Risk tool, for emotional harm , peers could make fun of them, Ban the Gap and Laura Ashely now. Everything can be look at as at risk to many people fail to understand, the public needs to see the at risk modal , after all most children are in care today for Risk of emotional harm, not because they experience it till they were apprehended. Thanks to the legislators.

But most upsetting is while they are going after one mom and looking for anything that may bring this child in need of protection, there are children that are in need.
Something has to happened to make it clear, why and who is really at risk and for abuse that has happened not risk of, that's like putting your family in jail because there is a risk of one of you at sometime or another may have depression and run your car into a CAS building. People need to get it, NO one can predict human behaviour past behaviour is not indicative of future behaviour, the studies failed to show that one , so they stopped using it, renamed it something else.

There was a young girl in hospital in Dec, she was married and sweet but only 20 years old, her baby girl was accidentally given an over dose of morphine, meant for another baby, to help wean it off the drugs that mom had taken for pain, the young girls baby ended up in the ICU almost died, of course mom and dad and 4 grandparents all screaming bloody hell at the patient advocate and nurses, and who came and took the baby, guess CAS WHY?? this mom was drug tested negative she is Mormon, so not likely, and was the baby taken because of the fuss she made,
I have seen it happened, the collage of physicians and surgeons have stated they are hearing far to much of it, and will be looking into it. There are so many hospital errors, 1 in 13 is a rough estimate, the numbers higher. Are parents being blamed, when its a child and the get angry and try and report it. Is it another way to deflect blame. Enmeshment, nice catch all term for over advocating, but what is over advocating? I heard a story, form a very reliable source, a doctor in the province got raked over because his child was DOING TOO WELL IN SCHOOL, she had come out of a private school, and into a public because there was no private schools in the northern city,
because the child was doing subjects in a 12 grade level in grade 9, parents get blamed, the psychobabble was he was pushing her to hard, and they could not challenge her in the public school system. one reason many parents are home schooling. Kennedy should be looking at the mess. Its all about standardized test, money. we have become a one size fits all mentality. and it will never work.
So don't neglect education needs, and don't hope they do to well either.
chatelaine will be doing an article on navigating your way though parenthood and trying to avoid CAS involvement a survival kit for parents, it included people you would never guess had a visits or child apprehended by CAS a real eye opener.
The lies and twisted statements will be mentioned. The pattern CAS seems to use. The Risk model tools they use and there questionable worth. And what can and often does happen to a normal family, that finds themselves in the nightmare of CAS. Please read it.

Jeffrey DOES need a proper burial and grave... his parents won't give up his remains although the paternal family (his pat. grandmother and cousins) have tried. They want the same thing...

Anonymous said...

Agreed - Jeffrey should have a proper burial and grave, but to give CAS any role in it would be horrible given their actions.

Anonymous said...

The person that posted how anything can be twisted into abuse is right on. Also, CAS practice of isolating one incident as grounds to remove a child is extremely damaging.

The system can be summarized in one line. If you float you're a witch, if you drown your weren't.

I just heard a story of CAS abuse in my community and wondered if anyone else has heard of this. A local family was struggling financially because a father who was laid off from a low-paying job had not found work after several months. Eventually, the family's utilities were cut off. The utility company phoned CAS the same day and the kids were put in foster homes. I knew that doctors and teachers involve CAS for no good reason but had no idea this was going on.

What Kim Campbell suggested was out of care for Jeffrey. Her thoughts were more in the frame of them being responsible. They need to be accountable for the injustices put onto children in our society. Given the outrage of the public I can see how people would think it a disgrace for them to be involved with a burial, that being said this thought again was out of care from someone who knows first hand what torture and abuse is all about.

Anonymous said...

Amanda, thanks for your comments about the burial, I did not realize that the parents will not cooperate in doing this. The little guy deserves to have a proper burial, with a headstone that resembles an angel.

The Sun articles do not touch near enough on the problem that a great number of children in care should not be in care to start with. With such stories from people like Erika Klein and many others who had their children taken this issue needs to be addressed. It is the root of the problem, and masking it as a shortage of foster homes does not address the reality behind the whole thing. That being said there are some good things in these articles without question.

The UTILITY company called CAS??
That's ridiculous!

Anonymous said...

Ridiculous but true - at least in small town Ontario where the various institutional players are in bed with each other. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has heard of the utility issue. Our local company is also known to notify police if there's a dramatic spike in water usage, as this raises suspicions about running a marijuana grow op. The pipeline to CAS may be more extensive than we realize.

I have not heard of this no but it would not be a surprise, and given that this happened one would think that it was reported by someone who has a vested interest in obtaining other peoples children? If they cared why would they not call an organization to help the family? No they called the child abduction society - could it be that they wish to get a child for themselves, or that they are in bed with baby brokers, the CAS and others that wish to destroy families?

Using alcoholism as a reason to remove people's children can be very misleading. The best dad in my neighbourhood is an alcoholic. He loves his kids dearly and is always playing sports and other activities with them. His kids think he's the greatest person on earth. Neighbours adore him. In this case, if one were to read that an alcoholic dad lost his kids, the impression would be very different than the truth. I have little doubt that the same could be said of many CAS cases.
