Uh Oh...

Hi Amanda,

As I believe Minister Chambers has mentioned to you, last Fall we issueda directive to all Children's Aid Societies in Ontario to ensure that afull and comprehensive background check is completed in all kinshipcases. Minister Chambers followed this up by issuing a new regulation toprovide for the strongest enforcement of this requirement. The Ministerhas asked me to provide you with a copy of the regulation, which youwill find attached. You may also be aware of the fact that we have introduced much strongeraccountability measures for CASs, through a strengthening of Bill 210.Bill 210 should be entering final reading this week and may even pass bythe end of the week. I would be more than pleased to offer you anoverview of what the new accountability measures entail. Best regards,
Chris

My response:

Hi Chris,

Thank you for this information.

Why does the minister not agree with allowing the Ontario ombudsman the authority to investigate?

I would very much like to know, in laymen's terms as I am not educated in law, what exactly the new accountability measures are.

So many people are opposed to the Bill passing, why is it going through so quickly and ever so quietly??

Regards,Amanda

Crown Ward Murdered

February 8, 2006

Child protection has failed for another crown ward. This time he was murdered.

Police releasing few details in teen's slaying

Feb 7, 2006

By Jeff Mitchell
OSHAWA -- An investigation continues into the stabbing death of a teenager on a downtown Oshawa street.
Durham Regional Police are releasing few details about 15-year-old Jerome Bennett and the circumstances under which he died. Homicide Detective James Stewart-Haass would not say whether or not police have identified suspects in the slaying.
"All I can tell you right now is the investigation is moving forward," he said.
The boy's body was discovered around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in a lot at the Glazier Medical Centre, at Simcoe and Gibb streets. Police said there were obvious signs of trauma to the body, which sustained sharp-force injuries.
The incident marks the first homicide in Durham Region this year.
Not much is known about the boy. He is estranged from his north Oshawa family, a source said. The Durham Region Children's Aid Society has confirmed he was in the agency's care.
"Jerome Bennett was a Crown ward in the care of the CAS," said agency spokeswoman Jacqueline Spencer.
She would not comment on how long the boy had been under CAS protection, where he was living when he died, or where he was going to school.
"The only thing I can confirm is he was one of our Crown wards," Ms. Spencer said.
The boy is also unknown at the Second Chance youth drop-in centre in downtown Oshawa. Young people at the Mary Street shelter Tuesday morning said they did not know the boy and records indicated he had not visited the centre, said executive director Clarence Keesman.
The centre caters to a clientele aged 16 to 24. Mr. Keesman said the vast majority of Oshawa's homeless youth do not choose to be on the streets, but find themselves there when they're thrown out or find life at home intolerable because of abuse or other pressures.
The remainder of the story, relating to other deaths, is omitted

The objective of this blog; my motto if you will...

Union:

I don't know, y'all, we in a real deposition
In the midst of all this negative condition
Divided by beliefs, different sink and religion
Why do we keep missing the point in our mission?
Why do we keep killing each other, what's the reason?
Listen, I know it's really hard to make changes
But two of us could help rearrange this curse
Utilising all the power in our voices
Together we will unite and make the right choice
And fight for education, save the next generation
Come together as one
I don't understand why it's never been done
So let's change on the count of one
It takes one, just one
And then one follows the other one
And then another follows the other one
Next thing you know you got a billion
People doing some wonderful things
People doing some powerful things
Let's change and do some powerful things
Unity could be a wonderful thing...

The plaque is resolved, but thanks for all the donation offers! :)

Does anyone want to take over this blog? If someone else has time to keep it up, that would be great, although I suggest blocking certain people. Please let me know if someone has the time for it because I think it important for people to share idea's and information with each other, regardless of the occasional nasty post.

Let me know. Thanks!

To everyone e-mailing me, please keep it up. I'm really busy getting my school stuff together right now, but read all of them! (I'm taking Sustainable Building and Design... I'm a huge tree hugger!!) I also don't have the internet at home anymore, so I will be restricted to week day e-mails and posts.

Thanks for everyone's support and kind, kind words.

Amanda

There are a few things I wanted to let all of you know.

1. The permanent plaque to be installed at the memorial in Greenwood Park is ready. They originally quoted me $776.00 plus shipping. I paid $388.00 before the memorial so the temp plaque would be ready. They are now changing it and saying I still owe $796.53. I DON'T have $800.00! So, unless this is resolved, I will be paying the balance out of my own pocket. Or more than likely, not at all because I just don't have the money!

Please do NOT say I stole money from anyone or didn't use donations for this cause! That blue bracelet you're wearing that says jeffreyslaw@cogeco.ca? That cost $5.00, (each, I ordered 100) but instead of charging people for them at the memorial, I gave them out. Again, don't make me look like a thief when you obviously know nothing!

2. I'm closing this blog, for sure, at the end of next week. It is NOT because of all the small minded, malicious people who have been posting. Their opinions and comments don't mean anything to me because they won't say who they are. But by the way, I'm an athiest, so don't pray on me losers! Religion is what's keeping kid killers from having a conscience! If they go to confession and say a few hail Mary's, all will be ok and their place in heaven is still secure, what a JOKE! No accountibility in life, death or supposed after life! God had nothing to do with the parents I ended up with, value's morals and kindness is why I had a good childhood. That you would even suggest it was something else makes me shake my head at your complete ignorance!

To all the amazing people I have met and been in contact with, I just want you all to know that you have kept me going this long. Knowing that there are other people out there who feel as strongly about injustices in this world will be our ONLY saving grace. You can always contact me by e-mail.

Thanks,
Amanda
